The Akarua vineyard is a unique site, measuring 52 hectares, 34.5 of which planted with vines. The estate is tucked into the foothills of the mountains rising above Kawarua River upstream of Lack Dunstan, in the midst of a breathtaking landscape. Located in Bannockburn in the Central Otago region, the vineyard occupies three west-facing terraces and enjoys intense sun all year round. This outstanding terroir lends remarkable character to the Pinot Noir in a reflection of the spectacular mountains surrounding the estate. The Hillside Syrah is dark and fragrant with Damson plum, black pepper, leather, black current, French oak and ripe supple tannins.

Mt Difficulty is a boutique winery located in Bannockburn, Central Otago, and was named after the mountain overlooking Felton road and the southern Cromwell basin. As the vineyards are ageing Mt Difficulty are starting to see additional complexity emerging each vintage. Inviting and opulent, the palate is flush with sweet cherry & blueberry, followed by trademark earth & savoury notes and framed by baking spice and fine grained French Oak. The fruit floods through to the finish with a juicy balance, indicating acidity that will keep the wine aging well.

Cockburn's Special Reserve was originally introduced in 1969 as the first great Reserve Port, creating an entirely new Port category that was fundamental to the success of Port and the Douro over the following decades. Cockburn's Special Reserve is a very fine wine selected for its richness and concentration, from the finest vineyards in the Upper Douro and matured in oak casks for five years. This longer wood ageing gives its fruity and full-bodied palate a distinctive dry finish, making Cockburn's Special Reserve the benchmark for all Reserve Ports.

Bright and deep red, the aroma is abundant in savoury plum, fennel seed and dark chocolate aromas. Naturally low in tannins, the wine is soft and abundant in rich dark fruits with a lovely Christmas cake-like finish. The sweetness is apparent, but balanced by the complexity of fruit-weight and time spent on tirage before disgorgement.

This limited release Mentor Cabernet Sauvignon is made as the best expression of their Barossa Cabernet of vintage.
